MPS Music Conservatory Program and Seal of Musical Excellence

There’s a new music program and diploma seal being offered by the Mesa Public School District (MPS), and it’s being offered exclusively at Mountain View High School.  Recently introduced by MPS, the new Music Conservatory Program and Seal of Musical Excellence is the only program of its kind offered in Arizona.  The Conservatory program is available beginning with this year’s freshman class, who will graduate as part of the class of 2022.

According to Scott Burgener, Music Education Department Specialist for MPS, “The Music Conservatory Program is founded on and supported by the district’s long history of providing outstanding music programs.”  It is a four-year advanced course of music study designed for students who are considering pursuing a college music degree, a career in music, or who simply choose the challenge and rigor of a more advanced musical experience.  Students must meet certain requirements to enroll in the program, and there are specific curriculum and performance requirements to complete the program and earn the diploma seal.  Students who complete the four-year program will be awarded the seal on their diploma when they graduate.

The district is currently enrolling students in the new program, and freshmen who are interested in pursuing the Seal of Musical Excellence on their diploma must let their counselors know by the end of the fall semester.  “The Seal of Musical Excellence is the first of its kind in Arizona. We are excited to share this opportunity with outstanding young musicians who see music being an integral part of their future,” added Burgener.  To learn more about enrolling in this program and to see the full list of requirements, visit the MPS website at http://www.mpsaz.org/arts/music/conservatory/.
